SAT
Preparation: SAT (SAT I) Math, SAT Subject
Tests (SAT II): Math Levels 1 and 2 (1C, 2C), Physics
Math and Physics Tutoring:
Math including AP Calculus AB and BC, Linear Algebra,
Advanced Calculus, Differential Equations; Physics, AP Physics
For some time I tutored
SAT and math and science academics for an elite agency that was very selective in its choice of tutors - much more so than,
for example _____, or _____. Like other high-end agencies, this firm required prospective tutors to have personal test scores
in the top percentile (as opposed to 5% at _____ or _____). I think it would be fair to say that my qualifications
compared well to those of the other tutors there. My personal scores exceeded the firm's high standard (I have obtained
a perfect score on the SAT - top tenth of 1%, on three SAT Subject tests - Math 2, Physics, and Writing - and
on other standardized tests), and I strove, as I do now, to meet a high level of professionalism. I received as many
assignments as I had time for, and I covered some advanced topics that most of the other tutors could not cover,
including the Math Level 2 Subject Test, AP Calculus, and AP Physics. I discovered some mistakes in their SAT
Math teaching materials, which I agreed to revise. I was ultimately asked to work as a trainer of new tutor recruits.
It was a great experience.
I worked with many different students, young and old, with a wide range of academic goals. The agency charged its clients
a very high hourly rate for its tutors' services. The tutors, unfortunately, received less than half of that
amount. Despite a one-year non-compete agreement, I decided I would be better off on my own. I continue to offer highest-quality math
and science test preparation and academic tutoring. I can charge less than my former employer and still receive a fair
compensation.

Some “elite” test prep companies charge a several-hundred dollar hourly fee, of which
the tutor may get as little as 25 percent. The two mass-market firms charge less, the tutor gets much less, and the standards are correspondingly
lower. One of these heavily marketed firms offered me and other successful applicants $17 per hour. I declined,
as would most capable tutors.

As an independent tutor
I strive to offer more effective, as well as cost-effective, tutoring. I am now free to follow my own test preparation
insights (whereas previously it was by the - sometimes incorrect - book). Many of my recent students have scored perfectly
or in the top 1% on their SAT tests, and have achieved scores of 5 (highest possible) on their math and science Advanced Placement
exams; SAT scores in the 700 range are typical. I specialize in physics, physical science, and math, including AP calculus
and post-calculus advanced topics.
Other qualifications: perfect
score (200/200) on the Educational Testing Service's Praxis Mathematics: Content
Knowledge exam, a test which assesses the prospective math teacher's mastery of his subject. (On a scale that goes from
a lowest possible score of 100, up to 200, about 3/4 of math teacher candidates score below 160.) I have more than 10 years of tutoring experience and an excellent
record of student successes.
My goal in
all tutoring is to impart mathematical and scientific insight and reasoning skill that will benefit the student in college
and beyond. It is the only path to true confidence and peak performance. Standardized test preparation also involves learning
about test format and some recurring question types.
