L. Hart Tutoring

Programs & Rates

Tutoring takes place at the student's home or other location if preferred. Sessions can generally be arranged for any hours during the day or evening, and all days of the week, including weekends.

Weekly hours can be scheduled at a preferred meeting time. There is flexibility when the student needs to cancel, or when test or assignment due dates require added or revised meeting hours.

SAT , PSAT, and SAT Subject Test (SAT II) Tutoring

Test preparation programs are designed to suit a student's needs and ensure that he or she achieves the insight and skill that will lead to an outstanding score. A program can be short or long term.

SAT I and PSAT Math programs are typically from 5 to 20 hours, depending on the needs and goals of the student. Sessions usually take place once or twice a week, for 1.5 to 2 hours.

SAT Math Level 1, Level 2 and Physics Subject Test programs typically involve 5 to 15 hours, depending on the needs and goals of the student.

If the test date is close at hand, preparation can be intensive, with daily sessions, if required.

Long-term, less intensive test prep tutoring is most effective. Tutoring can begin in the 8th grade or earlier. In these earlier years of exposure to abstract concepts "test prep" can simply be the superior insight that results from ongoing high quality math and science academic assistance. The goal is the early establishment of high levels of insight and reasoning skill that will be of benefit throughout high school, college, and beyond. The best test prep is ongoing academic assistance on a one-to-one basis with a capable teacher. The result is much more satisfactory for all concerned. Higher math and science grades are obtained, while the anxiety and the attendant inconvenience of many hours of intensive tutoring in the 11th grade, including the displacement of time that should be spent on concurrent academics, can be avoided. As the PSAT approaches, some attention is given to test format and content, but most of the "test prep" will be in place.

For students already in the top score ranges there are specialized strategies conducive to perfect performance.

A test prep program may consist of flexible, as-needed, guided self-preparation.

All test prep programs include periodic simulated tests to provide practice and assess progress.

Math and Physics Academic Assistance

Math and physics academic tutoring schedules can be intensive or even-paced, short-term or ongoing, depending on the needs of the student.

Rates

The hourly rate for SAT tutoring is $360 (minimum one hour per visit). The hourly rate for math or science academic assistance is $220.

The rate for SAT tutoring is higher than the rate for math and science academic assistance because SAT tutoring requires ongoing personalized curriculum development. Inasmuch as "SAT prep" which commences in the eigth grade or earlier is primarily academic tutoring, as described above, the lower rate applies.

Test preparation materials and practice tests are provided free of additional charge. For academic subject tutoring, a copy of the student's text, or photocopy of relevant material from the text, is very helpful, as well as copies of tests and quizzes (if available), and notes.
